Serving justice to communities that have been deceived or misled by those in power is a responsibility I take seriously as the People’s Lawyer.

That’s why I recently filed a consumer protection lawsuit against the janitorial services company National Maintenance Contractors. This company cheated and underpaid hard-working immigrant workers while using their limited English language proficiency to force them into misleading contracts.

Could you disinfect an entire kitchen and mop the floor in three minutes? That’s what this predatory company expected janitors to do. As a result of National’s underbidding contracts, workers were paid less than minimum wage. Some had to recruit family members to work for free to accomplish the work on time.

Violating our laws to take advantage of workers is wrong. Add your name if you agree.

The workers whom National deceived clean our businesses and make our economy function. They came to our country to realize the promise of the American Dream — not for companies like National to take advantage and use that dream for their own agendas.

It’s my job to ensure fair treatment for these workers — and to hold accountable businesses that violate their rights.
