We have big plans for our Elect Bold Women Fund -- from supporting Stacey Abrams for governor in Georgia to recruiting progressive women to unseat right-wing Republicans in Washington.

But first we want to bring your attention to Shawn Lassiter, a nonprofit organizer and former teacher who is running to flip Texas' 6th district in a special election on May 1.

This race is our best chance to flip Texas blue and expand our razor-thin House majority in 2021 -- but most Democrats don't even know that it's coming up.

We want to change that, so we're reaching out to our most engaged supporters for help. Lassiter is a bold progressive leader who is working to end Trump's influence in Washington and deliver racial justice, climate action, and quality public education for her constituents. She has made it clear that “on May 1st, we have to send a message to the GOP: Texas won't sit back and watch you undermine democracy.”

This will be a tight race, John. Just like in Georgia, Texas Republicans have introduced legislation to restrict voting access and make it harder for Black and Brown voters to cast their ballots. Democrats gained 9 points against Trump in this district in 2020, but we need to turn out voters in record numbers to finally flip this district blue.

Lassiter is just one of dozens of progressive women who are already standing up to defend our democracy from a GOP takeover. She's the kind of leader we need in Washington -- but the only way she can win is if she gets grassroots support from Democrats like you.
