Dear John,

This week, Arkansas signed into law a ban on gender-affirming health care for transgender young people. Amid ongoing national attacks on trans youth across the country, this is the first statewide law in the U.S. banning access to gender-affirming healthcare for transgender youth. It is a devastating blow toward LGBTQ+ communities, and we have a lot of work to do in this fight.

Among the anti-trans bills circulating in other states, the Equality Act — a bill that would provide comprehensive protections to millions of Americans who face discrimination, including LGBTQ+ students and educators — was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives. This pivotal act will establish federal nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ+ people in housing, employment, education, credit, public spaces, federally funded programs such as K-12 education, and jury service — and set a national standard for LGBTQ+ and transgender rights across the country.

To successfully pass the Equality Act into law, we need your help. Will you write a letter to your Senators and ask them to protect and preserve LGBTQ+ rights under the law? [[link removed]]

Unfortunately, the opposition has been doubling down on their efforts to get the Senate to vote “no” on the Equality Act. We must push forward with twice their strength, reminding the Senate of the necessity of civil rights for all. No one’s rights should depend upon their state or zip code.

Let’s make schools places where all students can thrive and reach their full potential by making our voices heard in the Senate and across the country. Tell Congress to vote “yes” on the Equality Act [[link removed]] to help everyone, including LGBTQ+ people, receive protections under federal law.

Together, we can make this country a safer and more affirming place for LGBTQ+ people. With your support, we’ll be one step closer to ensuring LGBTQ+ students can live as their truest selves in schools and beyond.

In solidarity,
Aaron Ridings
