John -- In just a little over one month, anti-voting lawmakers have introduced more than 100 additional voter suppression bills! And last month, Georgia Republicans passed a voter suppression bill that restricts vote-by-mail, limits drop boxes for absentee voting, increases voter ID requirements, and even criminalizes giving water to voters standing in line.

Federal legislation to protect the right to vote is the best antidote to what we’re seeing in places like Georgia and all across the country. Our grassroots team is working to convince the Senate to pass the For the People Act because we believe it’s the best avenue to stopping these bills and expanding access to the ballot box in all 50 states.

Can we count on you to take advantage of our online tool to call your senators? They need to know that the people of your state support this democracy bill. [[link removed]]

In February, The Brennan Center released a report saying that there were 253 voter suppression bills being considered by state legislatures across the country. Last week, they released an updated report revealing that the number is now up to 361. [[link removed]]

The For the People Act will help counteract the 361 bills being considered by Republicans all across the country and even some of the ones already passed into law -- like Georgia’s bill last week.

Our team created an easy-to-use tool that allows you to call your senator and tell them to support the For the People Act. It also provides you with talking points you can use to tell your senators why they should pass this bill. [[link removed]]

Georgia serves as an unfortunate example of what happens when gerrymandered legislatures act without any public oversight or accountability. We cannot risk the chance of more voter suppression bills becoming law and making it harder for folks to participate in our democracy -- especially if we don’t pass reforms like the For The People Act.

Thanks
The AOTL Team
