Hi Team,
My in-laws came to this country from China in 1966. As small business owners in Houston, they employed Texans, contributed to their community, and raised their son — my husband Norman — in kindness.
I shouldn’t have to worry about my husband, my son, or my in-laws every time they leave the house. But the recent uptick in violence against Asian Americans scares us. And it’s happening right here in North Texas.
During a Congressional forum in Arlington, one of my Republican opponents, Sery Kim, said of Chinese immigrants, “I don’t want them here at all. They steal our intellectual property, they give us coronavirus, they don’t hold themselves accountable.”
This racist and hateful language is shocking but unsurprising. Trump Republicans scapegoat Asian Americans because they would rather point fingers than actually get things done.
Trump normalized this kind of speech. But it’s not normal, it’s not okay, and it’s not who we are in Texas. I’ll be damned if I let my child — a Chinese American — grow up in a country whose leaders don’t value his life. I’m ready to win this election, flip our district blue, and shut racism down.
