Saks Fifth Avenue, a major fur retailer in the United States, has committed to closing all its fur salons by 2022 and to phase out the sale of all fur products by 2023.
This is a major win for the animals and it proves how individuals and grassroots organizations can make a positive difference. LCA would like to thank all the activists that protest on Fur Free Fridayevery year. Saks is one of many retailers LCA targets in the annual Fur Free Friday protest in Beverly Hills.
LCA applauds Saks Fifth Avenue for their decision to go fur free. Thanks to mounting public pressure, more companies are realizing that fur is an inherently cruel product that has no place in modern society. When speaking of their decision, a Saks spokesperson stated, "the sale of animals for fur remains a significant social issue," which proves that keeping pressure on fur retailers and consumers is having a major impact. The Saks news also points to the increased momentum towards eliminating fur production and sales.
This is a moment to celebrate, but LCA's fight against the barbaric fur industry will continue! See below how you can join the fight.
1. DONATE: Keep LCA fighting on behalf of animals suffering in the fur trade.
2. SIGN THE PETITION: LCA has joined forces with a global coalition of over 50 animal rights organizations to call for a worldwide ban on fur farming.
3. EDUCATE OTHERS: Learn more about LCA's fur farm investigation into Millbank fur farm in Ontario. Millbank plead guilty following LCA's animal cruelty complaint.
4. HAWAII AND RHODE ISLAND RESIDENTS: Right now, there is proposed legislation that would ban the sale of fur in each State. Email your elected officials in support of this legislation.
5. PLAN AHEAD FOR A FUR FREE FRIDAY PROTEST: Held annually on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving and the busiest shopping day of the year. LCA and supporters inform shoppers on the horrors of the fur industry. Not near L.A? Consider holding an event in your area.
