MSNBC: Conservatives frustrated by popularity of Dems' voting-rights bill

Support for the For the People Act among Democrats (96%), Independents (73%), and Republicans (74%)


John -- First the good news: It turns out the For the People Act is overwhelmingly popular, and not just among Democrats. Three in four Republicans support it, too! That’s great, right?

Well, the bad news is that Mitch McConnell doesn't care about public opinion, and neither do his big donors. In fact, they're desperate to stop this legislation, because it will level the playing field in elections -- and they know they can't win on a level playing field.

Their strategy? The New Yorker reported that conservative groups (including the Koch network) and McConnell's staff discussed a plan for Republican senators to “ignore the will of American voters and [try] to kill the bill in Congress.”
