“Far-Right Extremists Move From ‘Stop the Steal’ to Stop the Vaccine”

John,
We already knew that Latinx voters are being bombarded with disinformation -- many of us saw it in our own social media feeds, and a recent MIT study proved it.
Now, according to The New York Times, the same “far-right extremists” who pushed that political disinformation into our communities have a new project in mind: attempting to smear COVID-19 vaccines.
Our communities are being targeted by disinformation campaigns because everyone knows that Latinx voters are critical. Every Latinx home, laptop, and phone is a battleground now. So far, your support has helped us poll the Latino community on disinformation. Can you make a contribution?
Social media has always been disinformation’s best friend, but it’s especially rough on the Latinx community because platforms -- for one reason or another -- don’t seem to flag Spanish-language disinformation as often as they flag English-language disinformation.
Studies show that Facebook failed to place warning labels on 29% of English-language disinformation ... but when the disinformation was in Spanish, Facebook failed to place warning labels on a staggering 70% of the disinformation content.
This is a big issue, and it’s getting bigger every day. Our researchers have identified some of the most common disinformation narratives around COVID-19. We’re ready to move onto the next phase -- if you could spare $20, $10, even $1, we would be grateful.
Thank you,
Voto Latino
