Friend,
President Biden’s election and Congress’ new focus have brought a sea change to Washington—a focus on making a difference in the lives of Americans, rather than the previous administration’s tenure of chaos and polarization. The passage of Biden’s American Rescue Plan has been a necessary shot in the arm, providing much-needed COVID-19 relief. On top of that, the ideas proposed for rebuilding the economy in the THRIVE Act and Biden’s American Jobs Plan present a historic opportunity to rebuild our economy in a way that benefits workers and families.
In the face of the multiple ongoing crises, now is the time to implement a long-term economic recovery and infrastructure plan that is intentional about climate, equity and opportunity.
I’m excited to invite you to join me for a conversation with some incredible leaders on how we get this job done. On Tuesday, April 13, we are hosting a town hall conversation on climate justice, jobs and the freedom to thrive. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Michael Regan; actress, author and climate activist Jane Fonda; and Sunrise Movement Executive Director Varshini Prakash will join me and other terrific speakers.

The need for bold action, especially for communities of color, has never been more urgent. Building grass-roots and political power while proactively redressing discriminatory policies that hurt people of color, working-class communities and other marginalized groups is needed to make this vision a reality.
As we approach Earth Day later this month, the AFT is linking arms with our members, climate activists, trade unionists and elected officials to green our schools and workplaces, expand pathways to high-quality green union jobs and save our planet. I hope you can join the conversation on April 13.
In unity,
Randi Weingarten
