Congressional leaders could bypass filibuster to pass amnesty

Democrats may use the budget-reconciliation process to pass borders-busting amnesties.

Dear John xxxxxx,

Our recent fundraising drive was a huge success! It was our largest campaign ever, and we can't begin to thank our donors enough. Thanks to all of you, we reached our goal of $157,000 and that amount was matched dollar-for-dollar by a group of 63 major donors!

At the same time, things just became a lot more complicated and expensive for us: The Democratic leadership announced that they are exploring using the reconciliation process to prevent a filibuster and pass amnesty with only 50 votes in the Senate!

In my previous messages to you, we reported that the House again passed two massive amnesty bills for four million illegal aliens with absolutely nothing to prevent still more illegal aliens from pouring over the border.

Despite the setback in the House, we felt it was likely that we could stop the bill in the Senate if our allies there organized a filibuster. See, John, with the financial support of members, we've been able to show America's voters that the current crisis at the border is being driven by lax immigration enforcement combined with promises of amnesty.

Unfortunately, the Senate parliamentarian ruled Monday that Congress could pass a second budget reconciliation bill in one year. Since budget reconciliation bills are exempted from filibustering, Democratic leaders can use reconciliation to pass a massive infrastructure bill with as few as 50 votes.

Then yesterday, the Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Call published an article with this headline: "Democrats weigh reconciliation bill for immigration action".

The article quotes House Speaker Nancy Pelosi: "We think we can make a case about the budget impacts of immigration in our country, and we are going to try to do that."

If Democratic leaders do attempt to put an amnesty on the infrastructure bill, it will be up to the Parliamentarian to rule on whether or not it's germaine to the budget resolution -- this means that the Democrats would need only 50 votes to pass an amnesty. We're going to need to do everything we can to stop amnesty!

And that's going to cost a lot more money than we expected to spend. Before Pelosi's bombshell announcement, we already had our work cut out for us to keep at least 41 Senators from jumping on the amnesty bandwagon. But in a reconciliation process, we would have to hold on to at least 51 Senators! That would be the equivalent of all 50 Republicans and one Democrat. Right now, there are several Republicans who in the past have expressed a great deal of eagerness to pass at least one of these two amnesties. We may need to persuade several Democrats to vote against their party.

For now, we can pay for our ordinary costs, such as all the faxes to Congress, all our email alerts, all our legislative research and our Action Board. Please make as much use of this as you can. Whether you use it once or use it a hundred times, our members have covered the costs.

But we still urgently need you to donate to the NumbersUSA ACTION fund, because these new developments mean that this will likely be a much longer struggle than we expected, and our expenses will go up.

We're raising money to help us mobilize our army of activists and help them make toll-free calls to Congress. The more money you give, the more of your fellow Americans will call their elected officials and tell them not to pass amnesty. It's that simple.
