Research Participation Earns Money for Ministry
The Timothy Circle, a non-profit based at United Methodist-affiliated Southwestern College, is conducting research to learn how young Christians think about calling. 100 responses from young people ages 14-24 are needed to complete this research. Can you encourage several young people connected to your church to fill out the 10-minute online survey? The Timothy Circle will send $10 to your ministry for each young person who completes the survey, along with a copy of the study’s final report. Responses are needed by April 30. Visit [link removed] www.timothycircle.com/research-project/ to participate.
Right to Food Online Discussion on April 13
Hunger is reaching historic levels. The COVID-19 pandemic continues to devastate communities across the United States with a disproportionate impact on Black, Latino, and Native American families, and immigrants, and worsening the effects of hunger and poverty around the globe. The pandemic has exposed vulnerabilities in our safety net and food systems. And child hunger in both the U.S. and abroad has skyrocketed. Join Scott Moon, who serves on the Bread for the World Midwest Leadership Team, on April 13 at 1:30 p.m. to discuss what faithful and effective actions might be taken to address every individual and household’s right to food. Student Ministry Podcast
NextGen Conversations is a podcast that seeks to empower children’s, family, youth and college-aged leaders to create dynamic, Christ-centered ministries. Local church leaders often don’t have the time, energy or resources required to reshape a nextgen program. Every episode features a conversation with a ministry leader and covers innovative solutions to common problems faced in churches today. We want to give you practical steps to transform the way you do ministry. Listen on your favorite podcast app or at [link removed] [link removed]
GBCS Calls for Support of Voting Rights
From the General Board of Church and Society:
As United Methodists, we “hold governments responsible for the protection of the rights of the people to free and fair elections” believing that “the form and the leaders of all governments should be determined by exercise of the right to vote guaranteed to all adult citizens.” (2016 Book of Discipline, ¶ [link removed] 164A) In the United States, generations of advocates fought to expand the right to vote beyond the original electorate of land-owning white men. And despite constitutional guarantees, this right to vote continues to be under attack by ever-shifting tactics that suppress voter turnout and disenfranchise communities of color. The United Methodist Church also supports campaign finance reform that makes sure that policies respond to the needs of the people and not special interests. [link removed] Contact your U.S. Senators today and urge them to support legislation that upholds the right to vote for all, including Black, Indigenous and brown communities, persons with disabilities, and the elderly. [link removed] Take action today to ensure that U.S. democracy is of the people, by the people, and for the people.
