The Foundation for Child Development is proud to announce the 2021 Young Scholar awardees. Project Title: Improving Dual Language Teaching for Spanish Speakers: Evaluating a Professional Learning System That Elevates Latina Teacher Voices

“I am extremely proud and humbled to have been selected for the Young Scholars Program this year. While I am of course excited to carry out my research aimed at elevating the voices and assets of Latina early childhood educators, I am also thrilled to engage with the community of other Young Scholars who are all also working to understand levers for change and the supports that are most needed to bring about equity for the field.”

Project Title: Pathways Into the Early Care and Education Workforce: The Role of Various Credentials in Facilitating the Supply and Placement of Early Care and Education Professionals

“I am honored and thrilled to be part of the 2021 Young Scholars cohort! My study will use administrative and interview data to improve our understanding of progression through various credential programs for ECE professionals in Georgia. My goal is to inform policies that can remove barriers to gaining an ECE credential and thereby increase the number of credentialed educators.”

Project Title: The Diverse Books Project 2.0: Supporting Early Care and Education Teachers’ Use of Multicultural Books through University-Based Research-Practice Partnerships

“Being a part of the Young Scholars Program is truly a full-circle moment for me. I am the daughter of a former Baltimore City Public Schools teacher and my research will support current Baltimore City Public Schools teachers. The Foundation’s long-standing commitment to using implementation research to improve ongoing professional learning of the ECE workforce is deeply aligned with my own values. YSP also offers a unique opportunity for early-career professionals to connect with and work alongside various stakeholders, including researchers, practitioners, and Foundation staff. I look forward to becoming a part of and contributing to such a supportive community.”
