Our people hold a beautiful understanding of change. Right now, our communities are transitioning into the fall season full of harvesting and dancing in preparing for the winter changes ahead led by the teachings of our elders and wisdom of our ancestors.
Alongside our communities, the Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women (CSVANW) is embracing our change and I would like to thank everyone who has supported CSVANW through our transition and growth. Last May, we promised we would work to critically examine what is needed to further the vision of CSVANW. We have continued to hold honest and critical conversations to discuss the transition and direction of CSVANW. This #DVAM October we are excited to share where our healing journey has led our team, members and community.
CSVANW reconstituted our Board of Directors who are moving tirelessly to strengthen and guide the mission of our organization. We are working with an outside firm to facilitate a five-month long mindful and strategic search for our next executive director. We have redesigned our website and added the Advocate’s Corner to streamline resources to our Members.
The most exciting change, is that while we move through our five-month timeline, CSVANW is uplifting our value of shared leadership. When I was appointed this amazing opportunity in May, I committed to three months because I knew my ability to stabilize CSVANW would not be longer than a few months of diligent, focused and intentional work. We have just passed the three-month mark and all of our successes have not been without Kim Benally co-directing the entire time. It is well-known that Kim and myself share many responsibilities equally. We balance the work of CSVANW as we have for three years working together. With this, I would like to formally introduce Kim Benally as Co-Director of CSVANW.
So, join our team as we embrace change. Come out and run at our Annual #iWillRunForHer 5K, stop by our offices for our Member Halloween Party, or get involved with us online as we kickoff October campaigning of #1Thing.
We look forward to seeing all of you somewhere in your communities this month.

This month CSVANW joins the Domestic Violence Awareness Project (DVAP) for their unified message around #1Thing. Change can start with only #1Thing. One person’s actions may seem insignificant, but together a communities’ collective #1Thing can lead to real social transformation. |

Recognizing & Responding to the Impact of Childhood Trauma

We held our Recognizing and Responding to the Impact of Childhood Trauma training in Albuquerque, with Donna Lucero as our guest speaker. The training was intended to provide an opportunity for participants to develop a greater understanding of trauma's impacts in all aspects of life and lending an explanation as to why childhood trauma is a public health issue with lasting impact.

Our Sex Trafficking Project Coordinator, Cheyenne Antonio, was a guest panelist with Lynn Trujillo, Cabinet Secretary, New Mexico Indian Affairs Department, and Derrick Lente, NM State Representative, to discuss Missing and Murdered Indigenous relatives at the 5th Annual NAACP Albuquerque Civil Rights & Diversity Conference.
