We need your help? ? ? ? ? DEVELOPING? next Thursday, the window to provide public input on Biden's action to halt new oil and gas leases and review the whole system on public lands will close forever.

We need to make the most of the next week. Since Biden's announcement in January, the oil and gas industry has launched pressure campaigns targeting lawmakers in swing states.

We're worried their efforts are working. Lawmakers are repeating Big Oil's talking points on the record. Ads are spreading oil industry mistruths on social media. Astro-turf organizations are making it look like people want more drilling in their states.

If their campaigns go unanswered in the next week, it's a huge problem. The oil and gas leasing pause is temporary ? if these industry groups are successful at pressuring lawmakers and spreading false narratives, we might go back to business as usual.

Friend ? we're hoping to raise $20,000 before next Thursday, when the public comment period closes. If everyone reading this email pitched in ? even $5 ? we'd blow through that goal in minutes. So we're asking:

Donate today. This is our shot at stopping the oil and gas industry from exploiting public lands across the country, but we only have a week left. We need your help ? [link removed]

For too long the oil and gas industry has reaped the benefits of a broken leasing system. They've been allowed to select public lands they want to drill, purchase leases at ridiculously low rates, and sail through the permitting process.

As a result, fossil fuels extracted from our public lands have grown to account for more than one-fifth of America's carbon pollution.

We've been given a shot at fixing this system. One that protects our public lands and waters, makes them part of the solution to tackling the climate crisis, and expands access to nature and makes it more equitable.

But we have to campaign like hell in the next week. Secretary Haaland and the Interior Department are taking a look at serious reforms, listening to the voices of Tribal communities, environmental justice advocates, conservationists and others advocating for charting a new path.

Friend ? going toe-to-toe with Big Oil is what we do here at LCV. We've won campaigns against them year after year ? even when we're wildly outspent. The problem is that after months (years, really) of must-win fights against the Trump administration, our resources are tight.

We can stretch a dollar pretty far, but we rely on grassroots donations to make our campaigns work. So we're reaching out for your help.

Please, pitch in today. Help hit our $20,000 goal before next Thursday. Even $5 is enough to make a difference ? [link removed]

Let's keep the pressure up. Together, we can win this.

Onward,
