We're targeting five Republicans with ties to the Capitol insurrection -- and Florida representative Matt Gaetz just moved to the top of our list.
Gaetz has been a supporter and enabler of right-wing extremist groups throughout his years in Congress. He echoed Trump's election conspiracy theories until a violent mob of white supremacists attacked the Capitol. Then, he voted to overturn the election results and fought against accountability for Trump after the Capitol insurrection.
And now, Gaetz is being investigated by the Department of Justice for sex trafficking.
But according to this Trump loyalist, “I only regret that I have but one political career to give to my president.”
Gaetz's blind loyalty to Trump's right-wing agenda is dangerous -- especially when he has a number of extremists in Congress to back him up. So we're taking steps to unseat him before Republicans have a chance to retake the House.
We're up to the challenge, that much is clear. We have you and an army of grassroots supporters who've helped us defeat the odds every election. If Democrats make this a priority, Gaetz will no longer be able to champion seditionists from the halls of Congress.
There's only one thing standing in our way: Gaetz's millions in corporate fundraising next to our grassroots funds. Gaetz raised nearly $6 million to protect his seat in 2020, and we're running $2,091 short of our Insurrectionist Knockout Fund goal to unseat him in 2022.
