Dear
John,
The true cost is coming out.
The Office for Budget Responsibility yesterday
confirmed Brexit will cause both a short-term and long-term drop
in UK GDP.
Meanwhile, ministers remain silent on visa-free touring for
musicians, as Labour calls on the “arrogant”
government to publish an economic impact assessment of their thin
trade deal.
This week JP Morgan’s CEO has also said Brexit
“cannot
be positive” for the UK financial services
sector. We’ve already seen €6
billion in trading volumes migrating to the EU.
Britain needs a complete overhaul of the UK-EU trade deal if
vital jobs are to be protected. Sign the open letter calling
on the Prime Minister to form a specialised,
interdepartmental task force to level-up our trade in
services with the Europe.
As the UK and the EU sign a ‘memorandum of understanding’,
Best for Britain welcomes the first tentative steps towards
cooperation. But this is a far cry from the access we enjoyed
as a member of the single market.
We will only ever receive piecemeal unilateral
concessions from the EU until the UK commits to
meaningful regulatory alignment.
Thousands of musicians are still
waiting for the visa-free touring they need to bounce
back from COVID. The government promised it would be included in
negotiations. The Prime Minister promised he was doing everything he
could. But
now, it’s gone silent.
Many sectors, from finance to culture, desperately need better
trading conditions. Sign the letter to Boris Johnson. Call on
the Prime Minster to level-up trade in services.
The government’s trade deal is destabilising our
economy, devastating businesses and now, threatening peace in
Northern Ireland.
It’s time to admit this arrangement is
not fit for purpose.
Best wishes,
Naomi Smith CEO, Best for Britain.
