John -- We've told you a lot about how the For the People Act would end the partisan gerrymandering of congressional districts and restore voting rights. But there's another component of the legislation that's also extremely important: It would reduce the influence of money in politics.

I want to tell you a bit more about that piece -- but first, can I ask you to make a donation to help the NDRC fight for passage of the For the People Act?

Over the past several years, the rules for spending money on political campaigns have become a lot looser, thanks in part to misguided Supreme Court decisions like Citizens United. Nowadays it's too easy for the voices of billionaires to drown out the voices of constituencies.

The For the People Act would diminish the influence of big money in politics by:
- Requiring all organizations that engage in political activity to disclose their large donors (apparently this particularly horrified arch-conservative activist Grover Norquist)
- Making it more difficult to hide the true sources of political spending
- Creating a multiple matching system for small donations
- Strengthening election law oversight

In short, it would stop billionaires from buying our elections. (No wonder people from across the political spectrum like it!) This is on top of all the other great things the legislation would do, including improving ethics rules for public officials and lobbyists, and of course, ending congressional gerrymandering and making it much harder to engage in voter suppression.

The fact is, John, all of these things go hand in hand. Big money in politics, gerrymandering, voter suppression -- they all help Republicans keep a hold on power they didn't earn. They all make our government less representative, in effect silencing our voices.

The For the People Act gives power back to the people. That's why the GOP is so scared of it. And that's why it's essential that we get it passed as soon as possible.

I'm asking for your help. Can you pitch in right now to help us get this democracy-saving legislation over the finish line?
