Dear Friend,

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted support services in a multitude of ways, and the current circumstances have exacerbated violence and abuse and compounded trauma that is directly impacting survivors in our communities. And in survivor communities, we know marginalized groups are even more at risk - black, trans, immigrant survivors. We stand in solidarity with all survivors. The foundation of solidarity is kinship—standing together against not only sexism but racism, classism, and all other oppressive systems. We must join together in community.

“The Circle of Human Concern should include everyone…
We are all a part of each other.”
– John A. Powell
At POV, we are working to build just, equitable and loving communities. We thank you for joining us in this necessary work.

In Community,
Shirley

Denim Day 2021 is Wednesday, April 28th!

** Denim Day Archive: The NO EXCUSES Campaign

This clear and direct statement has stayed relevant over the last 22 years and has helped us shape our campaign year after year, staying both true to its roots and allowing us to relate our messaging to current events and happenings.

One of the ways we did this is with our NO EXCUSES campaign. Started in 2009, the campaign was a means to highlight many excuses that were (and still remain) part of the common narrative surrounding sexual violence. These excuses were vehicles used to justify or “excuse” sexual assault by perpetuating victim blaming in our communities.

Looking for ways to stay connected, stay inspired, and transform the lives of survivors in solidarity with POV? Donate or sponsor today or join our “Dollars for Denim” peer-to-peer fundraising community. Financial contributions help underwrite the costs of producing and distributing educational materials. They also ensure that we can continue to provide access to services for sexual assault survivors: from our 24-hour hotline’s operations, free counseling and healing services, legal and support groups, and youth violence prevention and engagement.
