A NOTE FROM CHRISSY: This past month closed with a string of mass shootings -- two that were particularly devastating in Atlanta and Boulder. My heart continues to be with the families who lost loved ones in the tragedies. My commitment and resolve remain to take action against the gun violence epidemic and the rise in anti-Asian crimes and rhetoric. In March, the House passed universal background checks to keep guns out of dangerous hands, and I'm dedicated to continuing the hard work of passing additional reforms to prevent future acts of gun violence. This issue isn't a Democrat or Republican issue. It's an American issue that Congress must address. I'm so grateful for all of you who have spoken so passionately about the need for change, and I promise that I will do everything in my power to build safer and more peaceful communities for our families. In addition to what I've been doing to make progress on gun violence prevention, here are some other important updates for the month:

MSNBC: Rep. Chrissy Houlahan Welcomes President Biden. I had the remarkable opportunity to welcome President Biden home to Pennsylvania this month. It was wonderful to have him with us in our communities – specifically focused on supporting the smallest of small businesses and helping them recover from the economic impacts of the pandemic through the American Rescue Plan. Help and hope are most certainly here.

PATCH: Chester County IU Clinic Getting Vaccines To School Staff. At the end of the month, Chester County opened up vaccine appointments for education staff as part of a statewide vaccination program for school employees and contractors. I visited one of the sites myself, and their process is absolutely exceptional. This is such an important step to getting our educators and kids safely back in school.

HOUSE COMMITTEE ON SMALL BUSINESS: The House Votes to Pass the Paycheck Protection Program Extension Act. I was thrilled to help pass the PPP Extension Act through the House this month and get it signed into law. This bill ensures that small businesses will continue to get the direct support and relief they need to weather this pandemic to the very end.

ALABAMA POLITICAL REPORTER: Houlahan joins bipartisan legislation to expand telehealth services for seniors. I was proud to join a bipartisan group of members of Congress to introduce legislation that helps make sure seniors who can't access a video component of telehealth visits can still access care through audio visits. The pandemic has laid bare the lifesaving importance of telehealth. This legislation is absolutely critical for older Americans to keep up with care for chronic conditions or preventative visits – especially during the pandemic.

DAILY LOCAL NEWS: Houlahan Introduces Measure to Improve Literacy Across the Country. During the pandemic, we've seen childhood literacy rates drop across our Commonwealth and across our country. While we work to get kids safely back in school, one of our first priorities needs to be addressing any loss of learning – particularly around literacy. As a former teacher, this issue is incredibly close to my heart. So I've been proud to lead the charge by introducing the bipartisan READ Act to ensure every child learns to read and can have a more successful future.

That wraps it up for this month. I'll be sure to reach out with other news and updates about how I'm working to get things done in Congress for you and your family. Or, if you call our office, I set aside time every week to call back constituents who have contacted us. These conversations keep me rooted in the most pressing issues facing our community, including vaccine distribution, upcoming legislation and more – so I'd love to talk to you. There is work to be done! – Chrissy

While Chrissy is focused on delivering progress in the House, fundraising is the last thing on her mind. But the GOP is already eyeing our critical battleground district, and we have to begin building up our resources right now to make sure she can defend this must-win Democratic seat in 2022 – so we're asking for her: Will you make a donation to help reelect Chrissy to Congress? Your support will make such a difference in our work to keep this critical Pennsylvania seat blue and protect our House majority.
