Time to get cosponsors
for Energy Innovation
and Carbon Dividend Act

CCL chapters around the nation are getting to work on the vital task of building support for the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act (H.R. 2307), which was reintroduced in the House last week by Rep. Ted Deutch (D-FL).

Rep. Deutch said the legislation, which has 28 original cosponsors, is “a market-based solution to put a price on carbon and drive the transition to cleaner energy sources.”

In a story Tuesday, the Washington Examiner said Rep. Deutch and his cosponsors are “making a push for the Biden administration to include a carbon price as part of its green infrastructure package.” Reports about the bill’s reintroduction also surfaced in The Hill, E&E News, Politico Pro and Bay News 9.

CCL held an all-supporters call last week to provide an overview of the new bill, its legislative details, action steps, and messaging recommendations.

If you’re on Twitter, you can like, comment on, or retweet posts from Rep. Deutch and thank your representative if they are a cosponsor

Want to help get more cosponsors for H.R. 2307? Send an email to your representative asking them to sign on.

In other news this week:

CCL values reflected in op-ed: Following the shooting deaths of Asian-Americans in Atlanta, CCL Mid-Atlantic Regional Coordinator Sabrina Fu had an op-ed published in the Baltimore Sun. In her piece, Sabrina said, “I am asking all of us to go beneath the surface of our fractured U.S.,” and she concludes that everyone must “start thinking of ‘we’ over ‘me.’”

Postcards heading to White House: CCL volunteers have started sending postcards to President Joe Biden in a campaign to let him know that carbon pricing is a popular policy. So far, 326 cards have been mailed through the MyPostcard app, which is providing 3,000 postcards free to CCL. Send a card and encourage family and friends to do the same! Instructions can be found on CCL Community.

Take action this week

If you have a little time: Join CCL’s national call this Saturday at 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT with Rev. Franklin Ruff, pastor of First Baptist Church in Stillwell, Kansas. Rev. Ruff will talk about how to bridge our differences in a deeply divided nation and listen to each other to find common ground.

If you have more time: Ask a doctor, dentist or other health professional to sign on to our Health Professional Climate Declaration in support of carbon pricing at  HealthProfessionalsforClimate.org. This declaration is a project of two CCL Action Teams — the Health Action Team and Business Climate Leaders.

You can also connect with your nearest CCL chapter to take action in your community, or join one of CCL’s national online Action Teams to take action on specific topics like agriculture, health, faith, and more.

Browse CCL Community’s Event Calendar to find upcoming events, trainings, and calls you can join.

Grassroots: The return of tabling is near

As the weather warms and Earth Day events pop up, April is normally the month when CCL chapters kick their tabling activities into high gear in order to recruit new members and generate messages to Congress. Because of the pandemic, however, tabling has been off the table for the past year. With vaccination efforts rapidly ramping up, we are getting closer to the point where people can safely gather together. We thought this would be a good time to review best practices for engaging new people through tabling. We have a previous blog that recaps a CCL webinar on tabling, offering creative ideas like games, science demos, and fun kids’ activities. Check out the tips so you’re ready when we can safely return to tabling!
