John,
In case you missed the news about the 2021 Trans Equality Now Awards last week, President Biden sent a message of support to NCTE to share with our attendees on Trans Day of Visibility. It was such an incredible moment to have the sitting President of the United States, arguably the most powerful person in the world, share his support for our community. If you missed it, you can view it by clicking here!
It may have taken several years for us to get to a place where we can call the President and ask him to appear at our event, but we got here thanks to the support of folks like yourself who have allowed NCTE and the NCTE Action Fund to build upon our political capital year after year. As President Biden mentioned during the Trans Equality Now Awards, “[he'll] continue fighting for an America that transgender people - like everyone else - can live in, and thrive in, and succeed."
The 2021 Trans Equality Now Awards was our first attempt at a virtual gala and we are so proud of the event that we were able to deliver. We are also deeply grateful to all of you who attended and supported the organization financially. It is because of your support that we will be able to continue our work with President Biden, Congress and lawmakers around the country and we could not be more thankful for that.
As our friend, Delaware State Senator, Sarah McBride, said when she introduced President Biden, "We have never had someone in the White House who sees us, who knows us, and who cares about us quite like Joe Biden."
It was such an honor to be able to host the President, and all of our other speakers, presenters, awardees and performers. We are so thankful for your support and I look forward to working with you all as we move into this next chapter of NCTE together.
With Gratitude,
|
