The bad news: Student loans are a huge burden on 45 million Americans who collectively hold more than $1.6 trillion in student debt.

But here’s some good news:

John, the Biden administration continues to make promising steps when it comes to cancelling up to $50,000 in student loans. But there’s not yet a guarantee, and we need to speak up as loud as we can so they can’t ignore us. Will you join Rep. Forgiving student debt will change the lives of young people — particularly for young Black people, who owe an average of $25,000 more in student loan debt than their white peers.

Right now, so many folks are forced to make the impossible choice between keeping a roof over their heads and putting food on the table or making their student loan payment.

Cancelling the massive and prohibitive amounts of debt that young folks hold is the right thing to do, John. Doing so would also have immediate effects on our economy, from an equitable economic recovery from COVID-19 to helping close the racial wealth gap.

And as president, Joe Biden can substantially cancel student loan debt with executive authority under the Higher Education Act. We’re urging him to cancel student loan debt now; are you with us?
