The Hyde Amendment bans using federal Medicaid to cover almost all abortions. Do you believe that it's time to end Hyde?
John,
For too long, low-income people have been penalized by the Hyde Amendment for seeking abortion — forcing those already struggling to make ends meet to pay large portions of their income for access to reproductive care.
This draconian law is rooted in racism and classism — and has a disproportionate impact on Black, Indigenous, communities of color, and low-income populations by barring federal funds from being used to pay for abortions.
Nobody should be forced to carry an unwanted pregnancy to term.
Everyone deserves access to abortion care — no matter their zip code or income. That's why Diana introduced the EACH Act to reverse Hyde and bar the federal government from putting restrictions on insurance coverage of abortions.
The EACH Act would directly impact the 7 million women who are enrolled in Medicaid and would be an important step in affirming and upholding
Roe v. Wade.
In this era where abortion bans and restrictions are being introduced and passed across the country, we have to do everything in our power to make it easier — not harder — to access reproductive care.
Diana believes that reversing Hyde is a matter of racial and economic justice and wants to hear from you: do you support reversing the Hyde amendment? Please take the short survey, and let us know >>
Thanks,
