Opponents of church-state separation are racing to restrict voting rights.  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌        ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌        ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌        ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌        ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌        ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Friend: Opponents of church-state separation are racing to restrict the right to vote.

The appalling voter restrictions recently passed in Georgia could be just the beginning. As reported by The New York Times, two prominent Christian nationalist groups, the Family Research Council (FRC) and Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), are pushing more anti-voter laws in dozens of states.

The president of FRC, Tony Perkins, bragged that his group is now pushing as many as 106 bills that erect deliberate barriers to voting in 28 states. Americans United is committed to defending our Constitution and our democracy, and the right to vote is at the center of both.

Christian nationalist groups are operating in a state of denial about the 2020 election – in which President Donald Trump lost, fair and square – and they’re using the false narrative of a “stolen election” to push sweeping voter-restriction bills, unabashedly aimed at Black and other minority voters.

If their efforts succeed, millions of voters could be sidelined and unable to defend the separation of church and state. The Christian nationalist dream of a nation that privileges a minority of white, often-fundamentalist Christian citizens could be realized.

Friend, Americans United is no stranger to exposing and confronting Christian nationalist schemes, but this push to restrict voting is a new low. The 2020 election didn’t turn out the way they liked – so now they want to game the system and cheat.
