[1]U.S. Senator Chris Murphy

Friends —

I am writing today with a very important request.

These emails mean a lot to me. They are an important fundraising and organizing tool and a way for me to share my deeper thoughts on issues and events.

And what your domain uses to decide whether these emails hit your inbox, or spam folder, is how many people open them and who clicks on the links.

You opened this one. Thank you. Great start. Now I am hoping you can click this link to help me out. As a bonus, I’ve included a video from the archives — the one that launched my first Senate campaign over a decade ago:

Let me tell you why I’m asking you to do this silly favor.

Here’s the gist of it: the tool I have been using to send emails for the past decade is shutting down. Now we have to move to a new platform. That means we need to take steps to ensure that email providers like your domain don’t mark us as spam in your inbox.

What’s the best way to do that? We need you to help us prove to email providers that people engage with our emails through opens, link clicks, etc.

I know it sounds absurd. I laughed at my team when they told me we should try this, but ultimately, my goal has always been to be honest and transparent with you — and most importantly to respect you and your inbox. I know that can be rare from politicians and PACs these days.

That it. That’s the explanation for this email and why I’m asking once again:

Can you click this link to make sure your domain doesn’t send my emails to spam? I’ve included our 2011 launch video as an incentive and a fun reminder of how far we’ve come on this journey together.

Hopefully, the transparency here resonated with you. It means a lot to me that you answer the call when I ask for help — even when the request is strange.

Every best wish,

Chris Murphy

P.S. if you’re feeling extra inclined to help us not land in spam, replying to this email is another helpful engagement metric. My team is going to read the replies, and we would love to know what you thought of this email. This is an experiment, and we’re honestly not sure what to expect.
