The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted a problem that has existed for a long time: poor people, especially those who are Black, brown, and Indigenous, have been treated unfairly when it comes to housing, and it's hurting our communities and our local economies.

In order to thrive, families need access to safe, healthy, decent, and affordable housing.

The American Rescue Plan proved the federal government has what it takes to help working people get back on their feet, and Dwight is determined to keep that momentum going. He introduced his Housing Is Essential plan to provide $63 billion in new federal housing funding -- including tens of millions of dollars for housing needs in Philadelphia.

From developing affordable housing and funding federal housing programs to expanding housing tax credits and providing federal assistance for significant repairs, Dwight's plan is how we invest in affordable and safe housing for the long term. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development found 7.7 million unassisted, low-income renters are paying more than half of their income on rent.
