Friend, we all know that the events of January 6th really began back in November.

The “Big Lie” – the entirely unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election promoted by Donald Trump and his followers – convinced hundreds of armed, white-nationalist domestic terrorists to storm the U.S. Capitol trying to prevent the peaceful transfer of Presidential power. It was knowingly fabricated by The 147 to justify their votes later that evening against certifying Joe Biden’s election, their blatant attempt to overturn our democratic process.

On January 6th, The 147 used the “Big Lie” to try to throw out the legitimate ballots of 81 million Americans. Now, they’re using the “Big Lie” to try to stop us from voting in the first place.

Over 250 bills that make it harder to vote have been introduced by state legislatures across the country. Georgia just passed one of the most sweeping voter suppression laws the nation has seen since the Jim Crow era, and more than a dozen other states will soon follow suit. The 147 have been promoting the bills and citing “Big Lie” conspiracies about 2020 voter fraud in an attempt to manipulate support for suppression in many states where it’s already too difficult to vote. Their intention is clear: to prevent voters of color, vulnerable voters, and informed voters from holding The 147 accountable at the ballot box. Their reasoning? The 147 know that when the people have a voice, they lose. So they’re doing everything they can to silence us.

The scariest part? A new poll shows that 60% of Republicans believe Trump’s and The 147’s lies about 2020 election fraud. If we can’t reach the voters being lied to, we can’t win. And far too few activists and organizations are committed to the far-reaching media and outreach efforts that will be necessary to dispel the lies that are motivating support for voter suppression.
