E&E News (10/1/19) reports: "New Mexico Republican lawmakers say a federal court decision that halts firewood gathering and other forest projects will have devastating consequences. The 21 state legislators sent a letter yesterday to the Forest Service and the Fish and Wildlife Service, saying the ruling will affect thousands of New Mexicans and jeopardize fire management programs. They called the order 'indiscriminate.' The Forest Service has suspended timber sales, thinning projects, prescribed burns and the sale of firewood permits in five New Mexico forests and one in Arizona. The decision stems from a case in which environmentalists accused the federal government of failing to track Mexican spotted owls. A pending motion would modify the court order to exclude firewood cutting and gathering for personal use. It's unclear when the judge will rule."

Not very enchanting...


Washington Times (10/1/19) reports: "After decades as one of the nation’s poorest states, New Mexico finds itself awash in revenue from the state’s oil-and-gas boom — so much so that Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham last month proposed free tuition for residents at state universities. The influx of cash, though, hasn’t stopped her administration from embracing one of the fossil-fuel industry’s biggest threats: the climate-change movement. Behind the scenes, the governor’s staff is working closely with national climate groups seeking to phase-out natural gas in power plants, transportation, even homes, according to emails obtained by the free-market Energy Policy Advocates...In a May 23 email, a staffer with the New Mexico Energy Conservation and Management Division asked the U.S. Climate Alliance about receiving a 'sub-grant' to bring on a 'Climate Fellow,' which would 'provide much needed assistance to our clean energy and climate efforts in New Mexico.' The concept of bringing on staff funded by climate advocacy groups is similar to the climate “special assistant attorneys general” paid by the Bloomberg-funded State Impact Center at New York University, but USCA’s Julie Cerqueira said no such fellows have been assigned, although two states have requested them."

But wait, wasn't that 'settled' science?


New York Times (9/30/19) reports: "Public health officials for years have urged Americans to limit consumption of red meat and processed meats because of concerns that these foods are linked to heart disease, cancer and other ills. But on Monday, in a remarkable turnabout, an international collaboration of researchers produced a series of analyses concluding that the advice, a bedrock of almost all dietary guidelines, is not backed by good scientific evidence. If there are health benefits from eating less beef and pork, they are small, the researchers concluded. Indeed, the advantages are so faint that they can be discerned only when looking at large populations, the scientists said, and are not sufficient to tell individuals to change their meat-eating habits...Questions of personal health do not even begin to address the environmental degradation caused worldwide by intensive meat production. Meat and dairy are big contributors to climate change, with livestock production accounting for about 14.5 percent of the greenhouse gases that humans emit worldwide each year."

Of course Nanny Bloomberg doesn't see a problem with the Chinese Communist Party because that's the system he wants here.


Washington Free Beacon (9/27/19) reports: "Michael Bloomberg told Firing Line host Margaret Hoover that Chinese president Xi Jinping is "not a dictator" and insisted the Chinese Communist Party listens to its constituents. The comments come in the wake of the former New York mayor's announcement of an economic forum in Beijing this November. Bloomberg defended China's ruling communist regime citing its handling of pollution and environmental policy, claiming that it is responding to the needs of citizens. The billionaire's comments come amid months of violent protest in Hong Kong and international outcry about the oppression of Chinese Muslims. 'The Communist Party wants to stay in power in China and they listen to the public,' Bloomberg said. 'When the public says "I can't breathe the air," Xi Jinping is not a dictator. He has to satisfy his constituents, or he's not going to survive.'...'He's not a dictator?' Hoover asked...'No, he has a constituency to answer to,' Bloomberg responded. 'You're not going to have a revolution. No government survives without the will of the majority of its people.'"

Iowa Mayor DeBlasio thinks going green means subsidizing people with the most green.


Gothamist (10/1/19) reports: "Riders of Mayor Bill de Blasio's subsidy-soaked ferry system are significantly richer and whiter than their mass transit counterparts, according to new data reluctantly released by the city. The long-sought figures reveal that 64 percent of ferry riders are white, with a median income ranging between $75,000 and $100,000. By comparison, studies have shown that two-thirds of subway riders and three-quarters of bus riders are people of color, with median incomes at around $40,000 and $29,000, respectively. The disparities are likely to intensify criticism of the troubled transit project, which will cost New York City taxpayers more than $600 million over the next three years. In order to keep the price of a trip equal to a subway swipe, the system currently benefits from a per-rider subsidy of about $10, set to jump to nearly $25 on some newly-expanded routes, according to an analysis from the Citizen Budget Commission. Faced with questions over the ballooning price-tag, de Blasio has repeatedly championed the service as an antidote to transit inequality, part of his broader agenda to make New York the 'fairest big city.'"

And the next target for the climate warriors... the people that make the food for the rest of us.


BBC (10/1/19) reports: "Tractor-driving farmers taking to the streets to demand greater recognition have caused the worst ever Dutch morning rush hour on Tuesday, according to motoring organisation ANWB. There were 1,136km (700 miles) of jams at the morning peak, it said. Farmers reacted angrily to claims that they were largely responsible for a nitrogen oxide emissions problem. A report has called for inefficient cattle farms to be shut down and some speed limits lowered to cut pollution. Farming groups believe they are being victimized while the aviation industry is escaping scrutiny...Amber lights flashing, horns blaring, the 'green army' rolled in and their message was unambiguous. 'No farmers, no food', 'You love bread, meat and fries, without farmers you wouldn't have them,' the slogans read."
