Friends,

All of us are deeply saddened by today’s news of the passing of Congressman Alcee Hastings.

For South Florida, Alcee was known as a tireless advocate for civil rights and fierce fighter for justice for all. For me and so many others, Alcee was also a mentor, confidante and dear friend. 



I am so proud to have worked alongside Alcee in Congress. He spoke up for those too often overlooked, and we have all lost a powerful voice for change, progress and the pursuit of a better world. 

Alcee’s work to create a better future for Florida and our nation continues through us. My heart goes out to Alcee’s family and to his incredibly dedicated staff. 

Alcee’s legacy will endure long after today. Rest in peace, my friend.
