Dear John,
Last week, I joined your elected leaders in the Legislature to deliver monumental education reform across the finish line in Oklahoma!
Parents no longer have their hands tied when it comes to making the best decisions for their children. Students now have the flexibility to attend the public school that best fits their unique learning needs, regardless of zip code. We are also ensuring tax dollars follow your kids instead of staying rooted in a district that you moved away from three years ago.
This historic reform follows two years of teacher pay raises and record-high investments by the State in public education.
I’m proud to deliver on this campaign promise for Oklahomans, and I am excited to see the momentum and support forming behind these student-first priorities.
In case you missed it, here’s what people are saying about these critical reforms:
“Thank you for investing in education. Thank you for listening to parents. I can go home and I can tell my son that he can stay in his school next year, and that is just as important as what we might hear from an elected official.” – Kandice Jeske, mother of two and resident in the Deer Creek Public Schools district
“Today is a historic day for education in Oklahoma. We have transformed funding for every single student in the state and empowered them to choose a school that best fits their needs. These two bills will work seamlessly together to have an immediate impact on the way we educate Oklahoma’s students and I commend our state leaders for getting this across the finish line.” – Ryan Walters, Oklahoma public school teacher and Oklahoma Secretary of Education
“Thank you, Governor Stitt, Rep. Taylor, Rep. Hilbert, Sen. Pugh & the Oklahoma Legislature for making history by delivering transformative education reform to Oklahoma students. Students need options to find the best public school for their learning needs and ensure funding follows them along the way.” – Jeb Bush, 43rd Governor of Florida
“Today’s votes are truly historic reforms. The improvements that Oklahoma students and families will realize from SB783 and HB2078 are the most important education reforms we’ve seen in a decade.”
– John Tidwell, Americans For Prosperity Oklahoma State Director
“As a parent, if you believe there is a better option for educating your child, you should have the right to pursue that option. SB 783 is a huge step in ensuring that the quality of your education is not tied to your zip code or your family’s income. This is a major win for all parents, especially those looking for more choices within the public school system.”
– Robert Ruiz, ChoiceMatters Executive Director
“Known as the Real-Time Funding and Open Transfer bills, SB 783 and HB 2078 will bring more accountability and give families the option to choose an adequate environment for their children in public schools across rural, suburban, and urban Oklahoma… Thank you Governor Kevin Stitt for championing parent voices and to our State Senate and House leadership for working diligently on behalf of Oklahoma families.” – Parent Voice Oklahoma
Now more than ever, we are committed to making our state a place where our kids can thrive and chase after a bright future right here in Oklahoma. A quality education is the lynchpin of this vision.
These reforms were elements of change that I heard from you throughout the campaign trail in 2018, and your steadfast support made it all possible. Thank you!
