Hi John,

My name is Ishan and I’m a member of the Dallas hub. I’m newer to this fight. But like many of you, I’m here because my experience has made it impossible to turn away. You probably heard about Winter Storm Uri that hit us, aka the Texas Freeze. For days, people went without heating in freezing, sub-zero temperature. I lost all access to running water. My community was devastated, but this wasn’t the first time a climate disaster has struck my home. This was just the first time anyone seemed to care. That’s when I realized there are not enough people out there fighting against all of this.

I also realized that volunteering for a few months every two years wasn’t going to cut it. So I went to the first place I could think of: Sunrise. Immediately I was introduced to Sunny. He told me that if we want a Green New Deal and Good Jobs for All, we need to focus on organizing our communities. We need to build a movement. So, that’s what we’re doing... [[link removed]]

We took our anger from the Texas Freeze and decided to fight for our community ten times harder. Two weeks ago, I organized my first action. I was scared that people would be too busy and not show up. I remember going to leave something in my friend’s car, still unsure who was coming. And as I was coming back, I saw a huge movement in front of me. A sea of Sunrise shirts and signs. Together, we marched in unison, singing our songs, carrying our art, building a movement of people who are hopeful for a better future.

We need people like you and me all over this country taking action like this tomorrow. We need to make sure our movement is on Congress’ minds while they’re at home for recess.
