Dear Friend, As we move into the eleventh year of violent conflict in Syria, millions of Syrians have fled their homes and now face compounding challenges due to harsh conditions and COVID‑19. Women, men, and children are determined to survive but there isn’t enough aid to meet basic needs across the country. Mercy Corps team members have worked for years on the ground to deliver humanitarian aid to civilians in Syria’s most hard-to-reach areas, and right now, we’re hoping that humanitarians like you will speak up in support. Will you sign our pledge before midnight and help us reach our goal of 30,000 signatures? From early in the crisis we’ve provided emergency supplies like water, food, and shelter to people in the most critical moments. Where need continues to be immediate — such as in displacement sites — these will remain an essential part of our response.
With help from a Mercy Corps grant, "Nur" (real name withheld for safety) was able to buy a sewing machine to help grow her tailoring shop in northeast Syria.
In other places, we provide longer-term support to Syrians (like "Nur," above) who are working to reestablish their lives and livelihoods. We’re providing farmers with training and agricultural supplies, like seeds and irrigation equipment, to establish sustainable sources of crops. We offer grants and microfinance options for displaced Syrians to strengthen their businesses, and we teach young people marketable skills. Our research shows that supporting people in their ways of earning a living during conflict offers more and better prospects for survival and recovery. Even as they work to overcome the impacts of the last ten years, Syrian communities are in need of humanitarian assistance to meet their basic needs and build sustainable livelihoods — experts are predicting that over 70% of the Syrian population may need vital aid in 2021. When we tell the story of our work in Syria to others who can help, we want to show the strength of the Mercy Corps community standing alongside the people of Syria. Will you take action today? Now is the moment for humanitarians to speak out in support of Syria’s recovery, and help to reach our goal of 30,000 signatures in support of Syrian families. Please take a minute and add your signature today. With gratitude, Adrienne Karecki, Mercy Corps Chief Development and Marketing Officer |
