A note from from Mayor Brian Turnbull...
** NORTHVILLIANS,
------------------------------------------------------------
As we enter April with its showers making way for May flowers, I wanted to slow down for a moment and thank all those in the community who participated in our
“Vaccinate Northville Clinics,” where we inoculated over 3,100 Northvillians. Special thanks go out to the TEAM that made it all happen. Shared activities & services have been a part of our community’s DNA for quite some time, but we have truly come together during the pandemic for the betterment of our citizens.
Vaccinate Northville was an outstanding example of keeping all our citizens safe. Staff members worked diligently, volunteering at the call center & scheduling area. Volunteers for various other activities were abundant, and our first responders and the marketing staff worked passionately for the benefit of all who came. I’m honored and privileged to have been part of this group and the lifesaving event they supported. I thank everyone involved, with special appreciation to our Wayne County partners who teamed up with us at the Schoolcraft College location.
Other COVID-19 activities & related information:
* If your schedule did not permit you to take advantage of the Northville Vaccination event, continue to reach out to Meijer (Ford Field Included), Rite Aid, Walgreens, CVS and even Kroger for vaccination details. Consumers are being encouraged to make appointments online or via phone at these retailers. For more info see:

* A new CDC study provides strong evidence that COVID-19 vaccines are highly effective in preventing SARS infections in real-world conditions. The study looked at the effectiveness of Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines in preventing SARS. (CDC)
* President Biden is doubling his original COVID-19 vaccination goal to 200 million shots by his 100th day in office. The original 100M goal was achieved on Biden's 58th day in office. About 2.5M vaccine doses are being administered daily in the US. (NPR)
* Governor Whitmer raised Michigan's COVID-19 vaccination goal from 50K to 100K per day. The new goal is based on the state’s successful efforts to expand equitable and efficient vaccine administration by partnering with both private & public organizations across the state. Thirty-five percent of Michiganders have now received at least one COVID shot, and this week the state is relaxing age restrictions to include 16-year old’s & up. (Michigan.gov)
COVID-19 CONFIRMED CASES: Northville has had 225 cases/8 fatalities, Township 1848/47, Michigan 780K/17K, Nation 31M/561K, Global 132M/2.9M.
This latest Vaccinate Northville event is the most recent example of our Community working together for the betterment of all our citizens. Let’s look at some other cooperative efforts that strengthen us:
Northville Library – Library services have been an important part of our community since the 1800’s, when Mary Lapham donated the original library building to the City (which now sits in the Mill Race Village). Supported by funding from the City and Township, the Library serves all Northville residents, meeting the educational and entertainment needs of thousands of patrons.
Our Recreation Department – The Northville Parks & Recreation Commission is a shared service organization that is provided through an agreement between the City & Township. The department provides youth & adult services and programs, pathway and facility maintenance, capital improvements to parks, as well as youth assistance programs. Recently at our Fish Hatchery Park, efforts to restore the only cold-water fishing in the Rouge River watershed received a substantial boost with $886K in grant money (for both Johnson Creek and the Fish Hatchery). Make sure you visit soon to see the transformation which included naturalizing & stabilizing the Johnson Creek river & pond.
Community (Senior) Center – Our Community Center on Main Street, dedicated in 2004, is also a shared service between the City and Township. The Senior Adult Services division of the Parks & Recreation Department provides numerous resources including healthy lifestyle programs, transportation services, social events, instructional classes and referral services. Past uses of this Main St. facility have been the Northville Chamber of Commerce, the Library, School Administration offices, along with the Parks & Recreation headquarters. It truly hit its stride with the renovation in 2004 when it became the Senior Center and later the Community Center.
First Responders – Today, we as a community work together on dispatch and lockup services for our City & Township Police activities. Additionally, we have a fire department Mutual Aid Assistance Agreement in the Western Wayne County area.
Northville Youth Network (NYN) has been serving Northville youth and their families in the City and Township for decades. This organization empowers youth through healthy-life type programs and serves as a bridge to other related agencies and businesses. NYN’s vision is to support our youth while encouraging them to develop resiliency and a positive sense of self.
Again, I thank you for assisting all in the Northville area through this pandemic journey. It’s up to each of us to share our time & talents with those in need on a daily basis. I encourage you to remain vigilant and continue to social distance and wear masks in public. We are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, but we must do everything we can to get there safely … and together!
Keep that Northville Faith … & Stay Safe!
Stay #NorthvilleStrong!
