I’m about to step on the debate stage to share my vision for Virginia. Last time there was a debate, I got to speak directly to Virginians about my plans, while my opponent Terry McAuliffe never showed up.
Tonight, voters will see the clear differences between my vision for Virginia and McAuliffe’s, which is rooted in the past. This is a race between the status quo and the future — and the status quo isn’t going to cut it.
Virginia has made huge progress in the last few years -- expanding Medicaid, raising the minimum wage, and abolishing the death penalty. We can’t afford to return to the broken politics of our past and risk the hard-won progress we’ve made by nominating Terry McAuliffe, who nearly lost the election in 2013 despite outspending his opponent 2 to 1.
Tonight, Democratic voters will have the opportunity to decide if we should continue with politics as usual or create the next chapter in Democratic leadership in Virginia.
Our vision for Virginia can win. We have a groundswell of support and it will take that type of excitement to get people to the polls.
Let me know you have my back as I take on this debate. Contribute now.
Hope to make you proud tonight!

Jennifer Carroll Foy was born and raised in Petersburg. In 2017, she flipped a Republican district as a first-time candidate pregnant with twins. During her time as Delegate, Jennifer championed the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment, helped expand Medicaid to 400,000 Virginians, and advocated for the Commonwealth’s most vulnerable communities.
She has a career of public service and it started long before 2017. As a public defender, Jennifer helped give a voice to the often voiceless — children, people suffering from addiction, those experiencing homelessness, those with mental illness, and the poor.
Now she’s running to be the first woman elected Governor of Virginia and serve as the first Black woman to be governor nationwide.
