The Avenue News: “Ruppersberger: We must modernize our nation's immigration system”
I want to thank everyone who chipped in ahead of the first FEC deadline of the year. Because of our hard work together, we’re starting this new election cycle in a strong position to continue our fight for Maryland priorities in Congress.
I also want to take a moment to update you on two important bills I’m fighting for in Congress.
I wrote an op-ed about two measures that I voted to pass in the House that would provide protections and a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who play an integral role in keeping our country and our economy going day in and day out.
READ DUTCH’S OP-ED >>
The first bill would provide relief and protections for undocumented immigrants, including DREAMers, who are often employed in critical industries like construction, landscaping, and food service.
The second would establish a pathway to legal status for undocumented immigrant farm workers and their families who are keeping our farms going and feeding our country.
These important pieces of legislation make good on the promise and ideals at the heart of our country. They also are essential for keeping key industries and businesses afloat and ensuring our country’s economic recovery as we make our way out of the pandemic.
Even as we see a light at the end of the tunnel of the pandemic, there are still great issues facing us as a country that must be addressed. I’m proud to fight for the solutions Marylanders and our country need in Congress. But I can’t do it without grassroots supporters like you -- if you are able, please consider chipping in a few dollars to our campaign today.
