Like many of you, I’ve been heartbroken and outraged by the sharp uptick in violence and harassment against the AAPI community in the last year. While the anti-Asian rhetoric during this pandemic has fanned the flames, AAPI communities have been fighting this discrimination long before COVID -- with the majority of attacks directed at Asian American women.
As has been said many times, thoughts and prayers are not enough. We need to take real, meaningful action to make this a country that lives up to its highest ideals.
Along with my dear friend Michelle Kwan, I will be co-hosting an evening of allyship and solidarity on Wednesday, April 21st to benefit the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum, an amazing organization committed to building leadership and voting power among the next generation of AAPI women and girls. We’ll be joined by some incredible women who I admire including Margaret Cho, Padma Lakshmi, Lucy Liu, and more.

It should not fall only to the AAPI community to speak out, protest, and educate their fellow Americans. We all have an urgent responsibility to take action, to learn, and to support long term solutions like building up AAPI voter participation and power, particularly with Asian American women and girls.
