Dear John,
It is National Public Health Week, and as our nation faces one public health crisis in COVID-19, we must also reckon with another public health emergency: gun violence. At the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV), we use a public health approach to stop gun violence in all its forms.

Like COVID-19, gun violence can affect anyone, yet it disproportionately affects communities of color, exacerbating existing inequities in these communities. Every day, we at CSGV advocate for evidence-based policies that save lives. We apply the public health model to define and monitor the problem, identify risk and protective factors, develop and evaluate prevention strategies, and ensure widespread adoption of effective strategies.

We are working to ensure the most effective gun violence prevention laws are adopted in states across the country and at the federal level. Will you join us in our efforts today? [[link removed]]

The steps that comprise the public health approach promote healthy behaviors, control the spread of outbreaks, and address the underlying causes of a disease or injury. During National Public Health Week and every week, it is critical that we apply these steps to gun violence prevention and let this model inform the policies we draft, pass, and implement.

The public health approach has saved millions of lives. At CSGV, we will continue using and promoting this critical approach as an evidence-based framework to stop gun violence in all its forms. Please support our data-driven efforts with a gift today. [[link removed]] We could not do this important work without your support.

Sincerely,
Josh Horwitz
