This is a red alert. Mark Zuckerberg just testified in front of Congress and said he supports new Internet regulations that would lead to widespread censorship, undermine human rights, and benefit ... you guessed it ... Facebook.1
Speaking in front of the House Energy & Commerce Committee, Zuck said he wants to see changes to Section 230 that are eerily similar to the EARN IT Act, a terrible bill that would put a panel of unelected government bureaucrats in charge of dictating social media platforms' free speech policies.2
Zuckerberg isn’t fooling anyone. Facebook wants Congress to gut Section 230 because it know it'll be one of the only web companies left standing without it. This is Facebook’s plan to solidify its monopoly once and for all.3
We’re taking on Mark Zuckerberg’s army of lobbyists and fighting to stop Facebook from ruining the Internet with regulations that give it more power while crushing smaller platforms like Wikipedia, Reddit, and Discord. Will you chip in?
Mark Zuckerberg has always wanted to be King of the Internet. This is his power grab. He wants Congress to poke holes in the foundational law that allows basically all user-generated content on the Internet—like your social media posts, photos, videos, jokes, opinions, and reviews.
If he gets his way, we could see Congress pass a law that does absolutely nothing to address the real harms of Big Tech (like data harvesting, and using algorithms to manipulate us and amplify the worst crap on the Internet). And as an added bonus, it would just tighten Facebook’s stranglehold on the Internet and the free flow of information.4
We are one of the few grassroots human rights organizations fighting to fend off these types of attacks on Section 230 and your digital rights. And we rely on small donations from people like you to make our work possible.
Please click here to chip in. Even if it’s just $5 or $10 it makes a huge difference.
Thanks for all you do,
-Evan at FFTF
