As we continue to focus on the health of our school community, our families and ourselves in these COVID-19 times, we also should think about our "Financial Wellness."
We recognize that your plates are full and you easily could overlook an important aspect of your life—however, today more than ever, financial wellness for you
and your family should be a top priority.
With this in mind, AFSA has teamed with a leading expert to present a three-part series on financial wellness,
hosted by Fitzgerald “Fitz” Miller, financial advisor at Janney
Montgomery Scott, LLC.
The AFSA financial wellness series was designed to empower you through financial education and
access to experts to help you achieve your financial dreams . AFSA's presentation of this program should not be construed as an endorsement or recommendation of any particular plan, investment or financial advisor.
We are excited about this enrichment benefit series for our AFSA members and their families, and we look forward to you joining us.
Session One: Financial Planning
April 8, 2021, 3 p.m. ET (United States and Canada)
COVID-19 has exposed the many vulnerabilities American families may face. The lack of a financial plan, or not feeling comfortable about their financial situation, was on the top of the list for many families when the economy practically shut down. The COVID pandemic highlights the importance of a financial “game plan" in the event of circumstances beyond our control.
Financial planning helps you to see the big picture. This session will provide an overview of the planning framework, including investment planning, tax planning, retirement planning, education planning, insurance planning and estate planning. In this session you will gain an understanding as to why financial planning is important and how it can help you and your family.
Session Two: Risk Management
April 22, 2021, 3 p.m. ET (United States and Canada)
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. Risk management is not only for institutions or the super wealthy and their families. In fact, individuals and families who are not super wealthy or who can self-fund a catastrophic or unforeseen life-changing circumstance should make sure they address their risk exposure needs. Insurance, annuities and long-term care insurance are effective risk-management strategies used to help manage unforeseen or untimely risk. You will gain an understanding of how to protect your investments/retirement/pension assets, protect your health care needs, and transfer assets to a spouse and the next generation.
NOTE: Each participant will have the option to receive a complementary risk management review and analysis.
Session Three: Retirement Planning—Your Golden Years
May 6, 2021, 3 p.m. ET (United States and Canada)
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. Your golden years are closer than you think—or you are ready to enter them? Either way, your retirement planning considerations are an important aspect of your financial plan, including such questions as: Will my pension/retirement assets be enough for the retirement life I envisioned? Considering my projected Social Security payments, will my retirement income be enough or keep up with the rising cost of living, especially health care costs? What if I get ill or need home care nursing or to be placed in a nursing facility, what will happen to my lifelong savings, assets and income? Will any of my retirement assets be available for my spouse or my next generation? These are important questions we each have to answer. In this session you will gain an understanding of how to address these critical questions as you plan on entering the golden years of your life.
NOTE: Each participant will have the option to receive a complementary retirement/pension income evaluator (RIE) analysis, which will help you answer these critical questions.
