Friend,
When I co-founded the Arab American Institute just over thirty-five years ago, we had the mission of empowering Arab Americans to engage in civic and political life. Our community was facing political exclusion – from being called the “Arab problem” in local elections to having campaign donations returned - Arab Americans were viewed as “untouchables.”
Today, with your support, I am proud that Arab Americans not only serve in all levels of government, but hold critical leadership positions. Our contributions are not just recognized but celebrated. We don’t just have a seat at the table – we lead. That I why this Arab American Heritage month, I am pleased to share with you what we have been working on for the last year.
We spent the last year reflecting on our history as a community and organization – our successes and challenges. We revamped our branding to reflect the progress we have made and the bridges we have built. Our mission statement has been updated, and our website has been redesigned. Our goal was to highlight our community’s diversity, contributions, and leadership while staying true to our founding mission. I am proud of what we have accomplished.
As we enter this new and exciting phase of our collective work, I invite you to visit our website, www.aaiusa.org, have a look around, and let us know what you think.
I ask that you continue to support our work – though we have had many successes over the last thirty-five years, as we all know, we continue to face challenges of profiling, discrimination, and erasure. With your support, I have no doubt that we can tackle these challenges together.
Join us as we continue our mission to empower communities and advocate for justice.
