Dear John,
You have been an AMAZING supporter, helping us to advance Ranked Choice Voting in the House and defending against an anti-RCV bill in the Senate. We need your voice to weigh again - and because it’s the legislative process - we need you to take action as soon as possible, before 8PM TONIGHT.
Senator Kiffmeyer has included the anti-RCV bill, the measure that would ban RCV in local elections, in the State Government Finance and Policy and Elections omnibus bill (SF 1831) that will be heard in committee TODAY. No testimony will be heard, but we have until 8pm tonight to submit written testimony for the record.
While we don’t expect the measure to go to the floor because there is no companion bill in the House, we must tell senators that Minnesotans do not support this backward, anti-democratic bill and, to the contrary, want to see RCV adopted statewide! In fact, there are 15 senate authors on the bill that would expand RCV statewide while the ban bill has just two.
Let’s make our voices heard a final time this session against the RCV ban bill! Send testimony to the State Government Finance and Policy and Elections Committee by 8pm today. Tell them to remove the RCV ban from the omnibus bill and instead give a hearing to SF 218 which would allow adoption of RCV statewide. We make it easy for you; this link includes a sample message and talking points for the testimony but feel free to put it into your own words. Testimony must be received by 8:00pm TONIGHT, Tuesday, April 6.
Thank you for standing up for RCV and democracy reform this session!
Your FairVote MN Team
