Friend,
I still think about what happened on January 6th all the time.
Even now, it is hard to believe that American insurrectionists attacked our Capitol building in an attempt to upend our democracy. And it’s galling to know that some members of Congress not only perpetuated the horrible lies that led to the attack, but then fanned the flames in the hours afterward — siding with the seditionists by voting to overturn the results of the election.
People have dubbed the members of Congress who cast those votes “the Sedition Caucus.” Like many of you, I have thought a lot about what I can do, personally, to make sure those lawmakers pay a political price for their traitorous behavior.
Today, I’m announcing a new endeavor of Democratic Majority Action: to take on members of the Sedition Caucus one by one — and end their political careers for good. How many races we can take on and how aggressively we can hold them accountable depends on how many of us are part of this effort.
Chip in any amount right now and let me know you’re with me in taking the fight directly to the members of the Sedition Caucus.
This isn’t going to be easy. And unfortunately, it’s not going to be quick. But the mission as I see it couldn't be more critical to the future of our democracy.
The truth is a lot of these lawmakers are beatable — some represent states and districts Joe Biden won, and most face majorities of their constituents who are disgusted by the attack on the Capitol and those who helped make it happen.
Our team will work with people on the ground to amplify the voices of voters in these states and districts and to ramp up pressure campaigns to make sure every single voter knows what their member of Congress did on January 6th.
As a Marine, I took an oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic” — the very same oath each and every member of Congress takes when they’re sworn in. That means something to me, and it’s why I’m compelled to fight back.
When I set out to take on Mitch McConnell, people told me I couldn’t win and that running would be a waste of time. I didn’t win that race, but what we built together is real. It’s powerful. The day after the election, this team dusted ourselves off and got to work on the Georgia runoffs, where we succeeded in helping take away Mitch’s Senate majority.
Now our sights are set on the people in power who betrayed our country on January 6th, and I need your help. In the weeks ahead, we’ll be announcing the legislators we believe we can defeat next fall — but how big we can go is up to you.
Chip in right now if you want to be part of this fight and together we’ll make sure these members of Congress aren’t just on the wrong side of history — but that they also get voted out when it matters.
I believe in this team. Thank you for believing in it, too.
More soon,
Amy McGrath
