Voting rights are under serious threat across the country.

Georgia’s newest voting law, which many voting rights advocates are calling “Jim Crow 2.0,” is just one of more than 250 bills recently filed in 43 states designed to restrict voting rights. As we argue in an op-ed published on Moyers on Democracy last month, these bills set out to disenfranchise millions of Americans, primarily people of color. And added to this, illegal voter intimidation tactics, like those attempted in Minnesota last year, pose threats of violence to the practice of one of our most sacred rights.

The right to vote is the bedrock of our democracy, and we will not stand for these unconscionable attacks. But we need your help to succeed. Can you chip in today to help us combat voter suppression across the country?

Free Speech For People served as a leading force in the courts last year in the fight to protect the right to vote and our election. We recently held this briefing highlighting important victories in our 2020 election protection work and discussing our plans moving forward.  

Our key initiatives for protecting the right to vote in 2021 include:

• Preparing for potential litigation challenging new state laws which further restrict voting rights;
  
• Continuing our election security litigation challenging unreliable and insecure voting systems; and
  
• Advancing our recent victory in our Minnesota case, brought on behalf of the Council on American-Islamic Relations of Minnesota and the League of Women Voters of Minnesota, as a model for challenging voter intimidation across the country.
  

We must fight against state legislation designed to make it harder to vote, and for federal and state reforms to make it easier for all citizens to exercise the franchise. 

We must fight in court to enforce the laws vigorously to protect the right to vote.
