John,
Michigan Republican Party Chairman and U of M Regent Ron Weiser was caught on video labeling the state's top Democratic officeholders "witches,” saying they should be burned at the stake, and referenced "assassination" when asked how to remove two sitting GOP congressmen who supported the impeachment.
Threats against members of Congress jumped 94% in the first two months of the year over the same period last year, according to U.S. Capitol Police. This type of language is threatening.
This kind of rhetoric is the same kind of language that sparked the dangerous riots against Governor Whitmer and led to a plot to kidnap and kill her.
What party officials do and say matters, and we need to hold the MI GOP accountable by showing that we’ve had enough of the dangerous rhetoric. If you’re with us, rush a contribution of $5 today and let’s show that we stand against hate.
Republicans like Ron Weiser and Mike Shirkey continuously get let off the hook for comments like this, but we need to stand strong and fight back.
Governor Whitmer won’t let insults get in the way of working with both sides of the aisle to do whatever it takes to help every Michigander out of the pandemic, and we need to be fighting by her side to ensure she can keep Michigan moving forward.
We need you to send your support to Governor Whitmer by chipping in $5 or more before the day ends.
Let’s get it done,
Team Whitmer
