Hey John,
I’m May Boeve, 350.org's Executive Director.
This month marks ten years of 350.org, and I can hardly believe it. We started this work because we wanted to help build a powerful movement that could respond to the urgency of the climate crisis. And that’s exactly what we’ve done.
350.org exists to build a movement around the climate crisis and put an end to the era of fossil fuels once and for all. We work all around the world organizing, mobilizing, training, and building people-power for a more just and equitable world.
Just a few weeks ago, we witnessed the biggest climate mobilization in history, 7.6 million people took to the streets to demand bold climate action. The reality is, we’re building a movement that will have to keep fighting this fight for decades to come and a monthly gift will make this possible.
We have already surpassed the safe level of carbon in the atmosphere (and our namesake), 350ppm, which is why we’re already seeing the impacts of the climate crisis all over the world. Scientists have been very clear that we can still transform our energy system and keep warming below 1.5 degrees - but it’s going to take a huge movement to make that happen.
350.org starts from the premise that all actions of any kind, all major political decisions, start with a person — they start with someone who gets passionate about an issue and decides to do something about it. That kind of passion is what we support here by training, organizing, and supporting activists with logistics of massive global mobilizations like last month’s Global Climate Strike to aiding activists in hyper-local fights putting a stop to new fossil fuel projects.
Will you help kick off our 10 year anniversary by pledging monthly right now?
Yes, count me in!
No thanks, but I’ll make a one-time gift now.
With great thanks,
May Boeve
