House Democrat Rep. Filemon Vela (TX-34) just announced he's retiring at the end of his term in 2022. He represents the South Texas Gulf Coast -- traditionally a stronghold for Democrats.
We're getting word that Republicans are lining up their resources to prevent us from holding this district, and they're deploying their secret weapon: gerrymandering.
This year we expect the Texas GOP to redraw this district entirely to lock Democrats out of this seat. Not to mention Governor Abbott and his Republican cronies just cleared the way to pass more sweeping restrictions on voting in Texas.
This is urgent, John. We need your help today:

We'd forgive you for thinking this is a safe district for Democrats, but the GOP performed well along the border region in the 2020 election. In 2016, Clinton won this district by 22 points, but Biden only managed a narrow 4-point victory.
Remember: Republicans only need to flip a few seats to take back the House and roll back our progress. If they succeed at restricting voting rights in key battleground districts like this one, there's no telling how many seats they could pick up.
