There's a lot of important news coming out of Georgia right now. Here's the breakdown:
FIRST: Women's March sounded the alarm that the Georgia GOP passed a slate of Jim Crow-esque legislation to severely limit access to the ballot for Black and Brown voters. We launched a petition to big companies who do business in the state like Home Depot, Delta, Netflix, and Coca Cola to get them to never again support the Republicans who supported these unconstitutional laws.
THEN: These companies heard our calls and condemned these racist voter suppression laws. Thanks to the 24,298 Women's Marchers on this team who've signed our petition, our pressure has already begun to make a tangible and important difference.
NOW: The Georgia GOP is fighting back by trying to financially punish any company who dares to do the right thing and speak out against these laws. Georgia's anti-democracy, anti-woman lawmakers are already retaliating against companies standing up to this Jim Crow-esque voter suppression, so now is the most urgent time for us to keep up the pressure and hold the line against these racist laws.
We can't let this retaliatory effort by the GOP stall the progress we've made lobbying these influential companies to do the right thing to protect the vote. Add your name to our petition right now to demand these companies to say NO to the Georgia GOP's hateful, racist attempts to suppress the votes of Black and Brown voters.
We know that these politicians are afraid to get hit where it'll hurt them most: their money.
But the truth is that these corporations — while on their way to doing the right thing — could also be afraid of speaking out if it threatens their bottom line.
That means that each of us on this Women's March team needs to keep the pressure on to show these corporations the power of our voices and our grassroots organizing power. We've already seen the evidence that our efforts are working, but we can't let up now with so much at stake.
