John —
You might be wondering why Republican megadonor and Donald Trump’s hand-picked Postmaster General Louis DeJoy is still sabotaging our Postal Service under the new Biden Administration. I am too. And I’ll get to the reason, and what we can do about it, but first, here are the facts:
DeJoy just announced a new “10-year plan,” which is one way to describe the largest rollback of consumer mail services in a generation. His plan includes longer first-class mail delivery times, reduced post office hours, and higher prices.
Of course this comes on the heels of an election year where DeJoy crippled the Postal Service. He banned employee overtime, decommissioned mail-sorting machines, and removed drop boxes. He did this during a deadly pandemic that had millions of Americans relying on the mail for their medications, businesses, and safely voting by mail in November’s election.
When we cut back on the Post Office, we all lose, but especially Americans who rely on the mail every day. We’re talking about veterans, the elderly, and small businesses who are most impacted by these policies. If we don’t act now, things will get even worse, and you can be sure that Republicans will point to mail delays to justify even more cuts to the Post Office.
So what can we do about it? It’s simple – President Biden can appoint new members to the USPS Board of Governors who have the power to remove DeJoy and end his attacks on mail service. And thankfully, Biden has made those nominations, and sent them to the Senate.
But unless the Senate quickly moves to confirm new members of the USPS Board of Governors who will remove Louis DeJoy, there’s no stopping the further degradation and sabotage of the Postal Service. Speed is of the essence.
Add your name to join me in calling on the Senate to quickly confirm new USPS Board Members so we can remove Louis DeJoy and protect the Postal Service from DeJoy’s disastrous plans.
We must save the Post Office.
