Dear John,

With just one week left until its legislature adjourns for the year, the Maryland Senate is standing in the way of youth justice reform. We need you to contact three Senate leaders TODAY to demand an immediate vote on SB853, the Juvenile Justice Omnibus Bill.

  • Call Senate President Bill Ferguson at (410) 841-3600.
  • Call Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee Will Smith at (410) 841-3634.
  • Call Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee Vice Chair Jeff Waldstreicher at (410) 841-3137.

Sample Phone Call

“Hi, my name is _____, and I live in _____. I’m calling to demand a vote on SB853, the compromise bill crafted by the Juvenile Justice Reform Council. The Council studied these issues for over a year and met with stakeholders from across the state, including families and youth. It would end the arrest of children and keep low-level offenses away from juvenile incarceration, and make other needed reforms. This bill already passed the House of Delegates and it is urgent that the Senate vote now! There is no excuse for delay. Thank you.”

Sample Tweet

Maryland desperately needs youth justice reform but Senators @willcsmithjr and @jwaldstreicher are blocking a common-sense, effective bill already passed by the House of Delegates. Maryland’s Black and Brown children can’t wait for justice. VOTE ON SB853 TODAY.
