Hi John,
Recently, I sat down with Vanity Fair to talk about the progress we've made in the House on combating AAPI violence, the work we still have to do, and how we will create real change in spite of Republicans who refuse to budge.
Here's the bottom line: It's time to stop ignoring the crises our constituents are facing. We were elected to serve the American people, so when someone like Kevin McCarthy votes against a bill that would stop violence against his constituents because it's not a “kitchen table issue,” it's disappointing to say the least.
If we want to make lasting change -- pass gun control legislation, protect communities of color, feed people who are unfed, house people who lack homes -- we need leaders who understand their responsibility to Americans. And I don't believe Republican senators understand that it's their job to deliver on those issues. If they won't do this crucial work, it's time to elect people who will.
Here at ASPIRE, we're already working to elect new, diverse, progressive leaders to Congress who will get to work on day 1 and deliver results to the American people. If you're as disappointed in our leaders as I am in the aftermath of these recent tragedies, I hope you'll stick with us in this fight.
Thank you for your continued support,
